It’s the best! The creatures are cool and the powers of the nations are awesome. I love the soundwaver! And Long is my favourite character. He also asked how long book two would be because he loves the first chapter in the back already.

It's every editor’s dream to be sent a story that has fabulous characters, a unique setting and an exciting plot. Starchild: The Age of Akra delivers on all these fronts. It’s a story for older children that could very well be defined as a cross genre of fantasy and science fiction. Taylor combines the best of both of these elements to create an entire world that’s completely believable. Rather than sitting somewhere on the outskirts, as I often feel with this genre, I was completely drawn in to this imaginary world as though I were inhabiting a real one. The action is beautifully paced and kept me turning pages until I had reached the exciting conclusion. This was aided by the characters, who complete the story and give it breadth and depth. I was immediately taken by the main character, Mai and the adventure that lies before her. There are also interesting relationships that sustain the story through the action, such as the trio of children: Mai, her brother Long and the Starchild. The minor characters are just as well developed, with Mai’s pet lizard Barka one of my personal favourites. I’m really looking forward to the next in the series as the story continues to unfold.
